Does PPF self-heal? Will it yellow? Can you see it?

Short answer

Yes, light marks in the film's top layer heal with heat from the sun or warm water. Modern top-tier film like STEK doesn't yellow. At normal viewing distance the film blends in; up close you may see an edge in spots where it couldn't be tucked out of sight.

How does self-healing work?

The top layer of the film is flexible. When it gets a light mark, like a swirl from a careless wipe, heat lets that layer relax back into shape. A sunny afternoon or warm water is usually enough.

It heals marks in the top layer only. A deep gouge that cuts through the film won't heal.

Will the film turn yellow?

Older films could yellow over time. Modern top-tier film like STEK doesn't. APC installs STEK DYNOshield.

Can people tell my car has film?

From a normal distance, no. The film is clear and blends with the paint. Installers wrap edges around panels wherever possible so they're hidden. Where an edge can't be tucked, you may see it if you look closely. More in How is PPF installed?

How APC Auto Spa does it

APC installs STEK DYNOshield, a self-healing, hydrophobic film that doesn't yellow, and wraps edges wherever the panel allows.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a heat gun to heal marks?
Usually not. Sun or warm water is generally enough for light marks.
Does film change the color of my paint?
Clear gloss film is designed to show your paint as it is. Matte and black films change the look on purpose.
