How is PPF installed?

Short answer

Most film is plotter-cut from patterns made for your exact year, make and model. Installers also use bulk film for custom work, which lets them wrap and tuck edges out of sight and cover unusual shapes and partial panels. Both methods are normal parts of installation. Some items like badges and clip-on trim can come off for a cleaner result, but bumpers and door handles aren't removed as standard practice.

Where does the film shape come from?

For most film, APC uses a plotter with patterns made for your exact year, make and model. Installers also work from bulk film for custom work, giving them flexibility to wrap and tuck edges out of sight and cover unusual shapes and partial panels. Both methods are normal and help the film fit the job.

How are edges hidden?

When the panel allows, installers bulk-cut extra film and wrap it around the edge, tucking it out of sight. It's like wrapping a gift so the tape ends up underneath.

Some spots can't be wrapped, so the edge stays on the face of the panel. On close inspection you may see it; at normal viewing distance the film blends in.

Does anything come off the car?

Some items, like badges and clip-on trim pieces, can be removed so film goes underneath. APC doesn't remove bumpers or door handles as standard practice.

Why is there a gap around my sensors?

Film never goes over sensors because it can make them malfunction. See Why doesn't PPF go over sensors?

How APC Auto Spa does it

APC's STEK certified installers use plotter-cut vehicle-specific patterns for most film and bulk film for custom work. They wrap and tuck edges wherever possible and report every install to the vehicle's CARFAX history.

Partial + Front and Full Front are finished in one day. See how long installation takes and APC's paint protection film page.
