When can I wash my car after PPF?
Short answer
Your car can get wet right away, so rain is fine. Don't wash it until the free wash and inspection at the 10-day mark. During those 10 days the adhesive finishes bonding and moisture under the film clears. Washing early risks catching an edge.
Quick facts
| Rain | Fine right away |
|---|---|
| First wash | At the 10-day mark |
| 10-day visit | Free wash and inspection of every edge and panel |
| Why wait | Adhesive finishes bonding and moisture clears |
What's happening during those 10 days?
Right after install, the film's adhesive is still finishing its bond to the paint, and some moisture remains under the film. Over the next 10 days the adhesive finishes bonding and that moisture clears.
Why not wash it sooner?
Until the adhesive has fully bonded, a wash mitt, towel or spray can catch an edge and lift it. It's like a fresh bandage: it holds, but you don't scrub at the edges the first day.
What happens at the 10-day visit?
APC washes the car and checks every edge and panel. After that, you can wash normally. See How do you wash and care for PPF?
How APC Auto Spa does it
Every APC PPF install includes a free wash and inspection at the 10-day mark, where the team washes the car and checks every edge and panel.
